Maintaining a vintage motorcycle requires a different approach than modern bikes. Here are our top 5 tips:
1. Regular Oil Changes Use the correct grade oil recommended for your specific engine. Two-stroke engines need premix oil at the right ratio. We recommend changing oil every 2,000 km for vintage bikes.
2. Carburetor Care Clean your carburetors regularly. Old fuel can leave deposits that clog jets and passages. Use fresh fuel and add a stabilizer if the bike will sit for more than a month.
3. Electrical System Checks Vintage bikes are prone to electrical issues. Check connections regularly, clean battery terminals, and replace old wiring if needed. Keep spare fuses and bulbs handy.
4. Chain and Sprocket Maintenance Keep the chain properly lubricated and adjusted. Check sprocket teeth for wear. A worn chain can cause poor performance and even be dangerous.
5. Store Properly When not in use, store your vintage bike in a dry, covered area. Use a breathable cover, not plastic. Put the bike on a stand to keep weight off the tires.
